A popular tradtion in many African countries including Guinea-Bissau is Female genital mutilation. The thought that was that if a female was not cut then it would bring dishonor to the family. Now there are laws being passed to promote civil rights and educate people about women and the rights that they deserve. People in many villages are trying to spread word by mouth that female genital mutlitation is being banned, but even so they are worried that some of the older generations may not like this as much because they are attached to the tradition and believe that not having it done brings dishonor.
I feel like this is very important because it raises awareness of the civil rights of women. It is important in fighting something somehting that causes harm to women and effects their possible wellbeing and future.
For many years female genital mutilation has occured, it has been a very important tradition in Africa until some women started fighting for their rights. This is important in that is the breaking of a once very sacred and important tradtion. This is the start of something new, which allows for the opening of more changes.
